Streamline Payroll: How to End Inefficiency in HR

  Reading Time:

Almost every HR professional shares an aversion to inefficiency. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean we have completely eliminated suboptimal processes in our companies—especially when it comes to payroll.

When you’ve double-checked the payroll numbers multiple times, you feel trapped in a calculator—and no matter what you do, that feeling of panic lingers after submitting. But isn’t stress just a natural part of payroll?

Mallory Tesauro, the HR director at New Moms, saw things differently. New Moms is an organization based in Chicago that supports young mothers and their families. Mallory joined the New Moms team last year after gaining ten years of experience in leadership positions and managing nonprofit organizations such as the Salvation Army.

In her previous roles, she deepened her knowledge in employee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and performance enhancement. Mallory is a true HR expert and exactly the kind of person who questions the tedious process of navigating through various systems with every payroll.

"In the past, New Moms used three different systems for payroll," explains Mallory. "IceHrm managed our vacation, another system was used for time tracking, and a third one handled payroll."

At the end of last year, New Moms decided to add TRAXPayroll to their IceHrm subscription and consolidate the three systems into a single one.

New Moms has made it its mission to change lives. So instead of worrying about payroll costs, the organization needs every free minute to focus on projects like this:

  • Between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019, New Moms provided 64 families with 45,327 overnight stays.
  • The NBC station in Chicago reported on New Moms last year, highlighting the newly opened facility, which offers 18 homeless families permanent, supported housing to break the cycle of poverty.
  • Last year, 95 young mothers produced 87,000 handmade candles as part of one of their job training programs. 58 of these mothers subsequently found permanent employment, leading their families to a more stable and economically better life.
  • Overall, in the last fiscal year, 88 young mothers from the various New Moms programs secured permanent employment.

Inefficient payroll processes, characterized by manual data entry and juggling multiple, disparate systems, are a significant source of HR burnout and a drain on organizational resources. The successful experience of organizations like New Moms demonstrates that the path to efficient payroll is through consolidation and integration. By moving from three separate platforms for leave, time tracking, and payroll to a single, unified HRIS solution, HR teams can dramatically reduce manual effort, eliminate data discrepancies, and minimize post-submission panic. IceHrm's capability to integrate with and manage essential HR functions—including Leave Management and Time Tracking—and seamlessly connect with payroll services like TRAXPayroll, allows HR professionals to focus less on tedious administrative work and more on strategic initiatives that directly support the company's mission and growth.
