must be taken before the birth of the child. The remaining 8 weeks must be taken after birth. During this period, the employee receives 100% of his average salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/icehrm.com\/leave-management\">You can use the leave module in IceHrm to manage maternity leave in Mauritius.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Paternity Leave<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees who have worked continuously for 12 months are entitled to 5 days of paid paternity leave. The employee receives 100% of his salary during this period and the employer is responsible for this compensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parental Leave<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Parental leave is not regulated by law in Mauritius. However, employees may be entitled to maternity and paternity leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sick Leave<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees are entitled to up to 15 days of paid sick leave. The employee must have worked for one year to be eligible. However, if the employee has not taken any absences prior to six months, he or she is entitled to sick leave after six months of employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Pay &amp; Tax<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Minimum Wage Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The minimum wage in Mauritius is complex. The basic minimum wage is 15,000 MUR per month. Depending on the employee&#8217;s length of service and industry, additional minimum wages apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Individual Income Tax<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The income tax for natural persons is between 0% and 20%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Payroll Cost<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The cost to the employer is generally estimated at 14.5% of the employee&#8217;s wages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Social Security &#8211; (CSG) &#8211; 6%*  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training levy &#8211; 1.5%  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Portable Retirement Gratuity Fund (PRGF) &#8211; 4.5%**  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Savings Fund 2.5%, up to 608 MUR per month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>*Maximum salary: 50,001 MUR<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>**Up to a maximum salary of 200,000 MUR<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Annual costs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13th Salary &#8211; 1 month basic salary<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overtime Pay &amp; Maximum Hours<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard working hours are 9 hours per day and 45 hours per week, without a lunch break. The normal working week lasts from Monday to Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overtime pay is mandatory and may be included in salary for managerial or supervisory positions. Hours worked outside of normal working hours are considered overtime. Employees receive compensation for additional hours:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>150% of the hourly rate for each hour worked.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>200% of the hourly rate on Sundays and public holidays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Termination <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Termination Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dismissals must take into account complex rules and the regulations of the country in which an employee is employed. Off-boarding is always carried out by the employer with the main participants. It may include ad hoc fees as well as required or recommended steps in certain termination cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terminations in Mauritius can be complex. Employers cannot terminate at will in Mauritius and the termination must be for a valid reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proper terminations include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Voluntary by the employee  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By mutual agreement  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unilaterally by the employer due to:      <br>1. Probation period      <br>2. Objective reasons      <br>3. Disciplinary dismissal  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When the contract expires<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Notice Period<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The minimum notice period is 1 month and can be extended if this has been agreed in the employment contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Severance for Employees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In Mauritius, all employees who are dismissed due to unfair dismissal are entitled to severance pay. The amount of the severance payment is decided at a meeting of the disciplinary committee and depends on the length of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To protect you from unforeseen financial risks due to redundancies, IceHrm applies a severance pay provision to all employment contracts in this country. If your employee resigns or is not entitled to severance pay, you will receive a refund of any unused amounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Statutory Time Off<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Paid Time Off<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Full-time employees are entitled to 22 days of paid time off (PTO) per year. PTO is credited monthly at 1.84 days per month. Employees are entitled to full annual leave after 12 months of work.
